Webster defines accreditation as “to give trust or confidence to: to vouch for; to recommend; to furnish with credentials, as an envoy or ambassador”
According to ISO 17011:2004 Accreditation means: Third–party attestation related to a conformity assessment body conveying formal demonstration of its competence to carry out specific assessment tasks.
UKACF Limited accreditation of the Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) and Training / Educational Institutions convey formal demonstration to carry out specific certification, inspection, registration verification/validation, assessment, testing, and calibration and Training/Educational activities. This independent assessment and recognition of Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs) and Further Training / Educational Institutions may permit the accredited organizations tests, examination reports and certificates to be recognized as equivalent to organizations in other countries
Accredited once, accepted everywhere
The international harmonisation of these standards warrants that the accreditations are carried out on a global basis according to the same criteria. As a result of these harmonised standards, and thanks to international agreements, the assessment services of bodies accredited in Germany are accepted in many European and non-European countries.
This ability to overcome technical barriers to trade facilitates cross-border trade and warrants the acceptance of conformity assessments results at an international level without requiring further inspections.
A typical process is as follows:
- Initial inquiry
- Preliminary response
- Submission of application request together with an administration fee. Please note: Applicants are expected to comply with the requirements of applicable standards (e.g. ISO 17021). Personnel competence will require demonstration.
- Application performance of accreditation routines dependent upon assessment and certifying standards.
- Send manual, procedures, require formats or applicable documents in hard or softcopy.
- We shall review and comment. If necessary we will require you to amend and respond before the next step.
- Demonstrate impartiality of your organization in respect of independence from ‘related bodies’ and that it is a legal entity.
- For the first six assessments you must advise UKACF beforehand that you intend to carry out an assessment.
- You send us photocopies/e-mails of all the documents related to those assessment and certification assignments demonstrating compliance with the documents that we had earlier reviewed.
- We shall issue a draft accreditation certificate. Your accreditation reference will be defined at this time. This will be subject to a satisfactory site witness of your activity.
- UKACF witnesses your next assessment and certification activity.
- You conduct a further four assessments and send us copies of the paperwork.
- We witness the next convenient assessment.
During the course of the preceding actions we would have expected to conduct several faces to face meetings and visits to your operating premises.
onfidence in the market place and in our public services is essential. Trust is placed in the products and services on offer often without a second thought by the customer, such are the regulations and standards against which products are manufactured and services provided.
For Government
There are many duties placed on government departments, local authorities and other agencies to confirm that trust is maintained. Whether it is health, water quality, food, consumer goods or transport safety, for example, the public sector delivers the framework for the assurance that goods and services are safe and the environment we live in is clean and protected.
Accreditation by UKACF Limited can also limit the need for government to regulate industry and the professions. It provides an alternative means of ensuring the reliability of activities that have the potential to impact on public confidence or the national reputation.
For Business
Companies big and small buy independent evaluations either through choice (to reduce the risk of product failure for example) or as a consequence of legal requirements (such as health and safety regulations). Most commonly these evaluations are calibration of equipment, product testing, and inspection of equipment and certification of quality management systems.
World Acreditation Day
Today marks World Acreditation Day 2020. Accreditation plays a key role in establishing the confidence and credibility of certification, builds trust and reduces costs within supply chains and assists in facilitating international trade. Accreditation has played a key role during the COVID19 crisis and offers a valuable opportunity in the post-COVID19 recovery as economies and world trade demands certainty about the safety, authenticity and traceability throughout the food supply chain.
